ELEMENT II:
Mastery of Your Academic Future

Sophomore

D. Reinforce excellent study habits

The advice for freshman year outlined a studying method that if implemented properly can be effective.

Good study habits are critical to achieving good grades. You should be constantly working to perfect your study skills. This becomes especially crucial as you move beyond the introductory courses and into courses that are more challenging, both quantitatively in the amount of work that must be completed, and qualitatively, in the complexity of the work that must be completed. As you have realized by now, the process of outlining can be a time-consuming one. However, you have likely also realized how rewarding outlining can be when it comes to exam preparation.

It takes significant effort and dedication to understand how to study. Learning how to study means understanding yourself and the ways in which you learn best, as well as understanding the nature of the material you are trying to learn. If you are having trouble with your studies, or simply want to enhance your current approach, consult your campus’ learning center.

Finally, as you continue to reinforce your study skills, the use of effective time management strategies and techniques become a must. The learning center should be able to assist you with these issues as well.
