ELEMENT II:
Mastery of Your Academic Future

Sophomore

B. Your evaluation of strengths and weaknesses should be ongoing

The evaluation of academic strengths and weaknesses is an ongoing process.

Your performance during freshman year should have revealed your strengths and weaknesses if they were not already apparent to you.

If you found that you scored poorly on papers then you should seek extra help from your campus’ writing center. As previously stated, the ability to write well is perhaps the most important skill you must master in order to pave a smooth path toward graduate school, particularly in the social sciences and humanities.

Similarly, if your performance in a mathematics course was poor, then seek tutoring. This advice also applies to those who did well freshman year. Remember, you should measure your progress by the metric of excellence. Excellence is a process, not a destination.
