ELEMENT I:
Mastery of Self

Sophomore

B. Keep your eyes on the prize

Your ultimate goal is to gain admission into the graduate school of your choice, in the discipline of your choice, and with a full funding from your graduate institution.

This will be repeated many times throughout the advice provided in this website. The guidance provided is not simply to ensure freshman year success. It is part of an overall enterprise, a strategy to create as many opportunities for graduate study as possible for you upon the completion of your undergraduate career. As you proceed along the undergraduate path, bear in mind that the adjustments you make in your study habits, work ethic, time management, interpersonal skills and networking ability are part and parcel of a plan and program to secure your future as a teacher and a researcher of the highest caliber. Keeping sight of this larger goal is crucial to success during your sophomore year.
