ELEMENT II:
Mastery of Your Academic Future

Senior

B. Pay attention to -applications, deadlines, documents and details

After selecting your programs, you should review each program’s application.

It is recommended that you apply to at least six programs; however this number is not set in stone. Each application may have different requirements. Familiarize yourself with the requirements of each program. Create a spreadsheet outlining, at a minimum: (1) the name of the institution, (2) the name of the program, (3) the application deadline, (4) the deadline for the submission of supplementary materials, (5) the supplementary materials required for submission, and (6) the names and contact information for the professors in the program with whom you would like to work.

Supplementary materials may include a writing sample, letters of recommendation, undergraduate transcripts, GRE scores, a statement of purpose, a résumé and a diversity statement. Make sure to pay close attention to the deadlines.

As your senior year progresses, and your attention becomes diverted toward coursework and extracurricular activities, missing deadlines may become a possibility. Use all of the skills you have learned thus far to ensure that does not occur.
