ELEMENT II:
Mastery of Your Academic Future

Junior

A. Complete your major and minor requirements

If you have been practicing your study skills, visiting your advisors and professors, getting subject-matter tutoring when needed and consulting the writers at your school’s writing center, then you should be in excellent academic health.

General requirements should be completed by this point. Work on completing major and minor requirements. If you decided to switch majors, then you may have some catching up to do. Before deciding to change majors or minors, make sure you consult with the appropriate advisors.

Changing majors may mean that you will not be able to graduate in four years. A failure to graduate in four years in no way prevents you from gaining admission to graduate school. However, you do not want to extend your stay as an undergraduate if you do not have to.

If you are truly stuck in a major that is not right for you, then it may be best to change. Again, consult the relevant advisors before you make the decision.
