Building meaningful relationships is one of most important objectives in university life, as well as life in general.
As you proceed through your first year at the university you will have many opportunities to interact with a variety of people. Some of these people will share your interest in academic success, personal growth and professional excellence. However, some will not.
By surrounding yourself with individuals who share your aspirations, you will create a support network to rely on in difficult times during your first year. This network can serve a social purpose a group of friends to eat with in the dining hall, study with, discuss personal as well as academic issues with and provide the moral support and encouragement necessary to succeed at the university.
This group can also serve as your future professional network when you arrive at the stage of performing your own research.
